Manual Therapy

55 minutes: $79

Manual Therapy (medical massage) is a mix of manipulations which direct a quick healing process to orthopedic or neurological illnesses, and their associated discomfort. Medical massage help for reduction of, and management of pain requiring a different type of frequency. This also features Electrical Therapy, which depending on the case, can be individualized to different medical manipulations.

The distance up to 15 miles from zip 60561 has no fee. The distance between 15 - 25 miles has $10 extra charge.

Rehabilitation

45 minutes: $69

This rehabilitation captures both neurological and physiological injuries. The combination of Rehabilitation & Medical Massage includes firm massage with isometric, targeted exercises, soft stretching, electricity therapy, and ultrasound.

Ultrasound Therapy

The effect of ultrasound via an increase in local blood flow is efficient in reducing local swelling and chronic inflammation while promoting healing in bone fractures. The power density of the ultrasound can be adjusted depending on the goal. For example, greater power density is used where the purpose is scar tissue breakdown.

Ultrasound can also be used to achieve phonophoresis. This is a non-invasive way of administering medications to tissues below the skin. This method is geared for patients who are uncomfortable with injections This technique passes the ultrasonic energy, to force medication through the skin.

The most common conditions treated with ultrasound include soft tissue injuries such as tendonitis, non-acute joint swelling, and muscle spasm. Most muscle and ligament injuries will benefit from therapeutic ultrasound.

T.E.N.S

(Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation)  is a form of Electrotherapy. It is commonly used at Total Physio. It refers to the diffusion of small electrical pulses through the skin to the underlying peripheral nerves. Pain can be managed through selectively stimulating large nerve fibres by altering the pulse amplitude and scope.

TENS currents are used in the treatment of: Muscle pain syndromes; Backbone and joint pain syndromes; Neuralgias

TENS refers to to the transmission of small electrical pulses through the skin to the underlying peripheral nerves.  The basic principle behind conventional or high frequency TENS is that  large nerve fibres can be selectively stimulated by adjusting the pulse  amplitude, pulse width and repetition rate of specially selected wave forms. These large fibres have a lower threshold for stimulation and faster conduction velocity than the small fibres that conduct pain messages.

EMS

Electrical Muscle Stimulation is used medically; for instance in physical therapy, for preventing muscle atrophy. EMS is due to inactivity, or neuromuscular imbalance. This can occur for example after musculoskeletal injuries (damage to bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons). This is exclusive as "transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation" (TENS), in which an electric current is essential for pain therapy.

During electrical muscle stimulation, only a few muscular groups are targeted at the same time. This is done for the purpose of specific training goals.

Interferential Therapy

The basic principle of Interferential Therapy (IFT) is to utilize the strong physiological portable, IFTL, effects of low-frequency electrical stimulation of nerves without the associated painful and unpleasant side effects associated with low-frequency stimulation. IFT is one of the ways of offering electrotherapy for management for pain. The treatment is used for treating chronic, post-traumatic, and post-surgical pain. The IFT therapy has also gained prominence because of its pain-free, drug-free, and non-invasive way of healing. It has been observed that multiple treatments daily offer improved results. Many people take IFT treatment at home on their own for pain reduction, medication, and edema. However, it must be done under medical supervision as it involves the use of electric currents.

Russian Stimulation Therapy

Russian Stimulation Therapy is a form of Electrotherapy. Its unique name raises a lot questions; it was originally developed by the Russian Olympic team for the enhancement of muscle mass. Russian Stimulation Therapy is mostly used for muscle mass and edema reduction in North America.

Total Physio uses Russian Stimulation to stimulate motor nerves. Its capability of a high frequency (2500Hz) allows for deep muscle penetration, stimulation and intense muscle fiber contraction.

It’s commonly used to relieve muscle spasms and assist patients suffering from Scoliosis.
